Services in Schools
Many young people struggling academically at school are held back by social and behavioural barriers that interfere with their success.
YouthLink has a long history of partnering with schools in Scarborough to support youth in these situations. We offer specialized groups that promote self-esteem, positive social skills and anger management. Groups are provided in response to a request by a particular school and they are generally tailored to the needs of particular students. We also provide a 10 week Anger Management Program developed by YouthLink.
Anger Management Program
The Anger Management Program, developed by YouthLink, is offered to Grade 7 and 8 students who are at risk of leaving school, underachieving, or being expelled due to aggressive or inappropriate behaviour.
The program helps youth understand more clearly the origins of their anger and triggers to violent behavior and learn ways to communicate their needs and resolve conflict more effectively. The group helps youth to recognize different anger styles, become more conscious of the degree of anger they are experiencing, understand how external social factors can contribute and try different coping strategies, such as relaxation and visualization.
Groups are provided at the request of the school and run from October to June. The program is currently underway at Bliss Carmen S.P.S, John McCrea S.P.S and Alexander Stirling.
