YouthLink protects the privacy of the personal information that our supporters may provide may collect in the course of our communications, networking and fund-raising activities. This statement outlines our commitment to protecting your privacy.
Note: This statement does not address client confidentiality policies which are outlined in our in our Client Services Manual and consistent with current provincial legislation.
What is Personal Information?
Personal information includes name, contact addresses, phone numbers, donation records and volunteer history of an individual. It does not include contact information for an employee of an organization.
How do we ensure the information is protected?
Personal information is kept in our secure, password protected database that can only be accessed by designated staff. YouthLink does not store credit card numbers for use beyond the transaction for which it was provided.
Hard copy donation files are stored in secure office space that can only be accessed by designated staff.
How do we use personal information?
Personal information that is collected by YouthLink is used for the following purposes:
- To establish and maintain relationships with individuals who have expressed interest in YouthLink
- To provide information on our programs, advocacy campaigns, events and volunteer opportunities
- To request financial support for our work and forward charitable donation receipts
In order to acknowledgement our “community of support”, YouthLink may publish the names of donors and sup- portersinourAnnualReportandwebsite,inaccordancewithourDonorRecognitionPolicy. Namesofdonors may be grouped into donation levels and donors may request to remain anonymous.
How do we obtain consent to use personal information?
When individuals provide personal contact information to YouthLink, consent is implied to use the information forthepurposesdescribedabove. ConsenttolistnamesinYouthLink’s“communityofsupport”inourAnnualReport and website will be implied at the time of donation and confirmed through the acknowledgement process.
Individual consent will be obtained for any other use. Donors may always request anonymity, in accordance with our Gift Acceptance Policy.
Do we share personal information with other organizations?
YouthLink does not share or trade mailing lists with other organizations.
How long do we store personal information?
YouthLink keep personal information indefinitely for purposes of ongoing communications and fund-raising and to meet Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements.
Can individuals review their personal information?
Individuals have the right to see their personal information and to challenge its accuracy. YouthLink attempts to ensure accuracy of all personal information and requests that individuals contact us in writing with updated con- tact information.
How can I make a complaint?
Anyone wishing to challenge our compliance with this privacy statement, should contact the Director of Resource Development. We will investigate all written complaints and take appropriate measures, including amending our policies and practices, if the complaint is justified.
